St Paul's Church & Community Centre

Art and Music Space

St Paul's Goodmayes is on the Art Trail that covers churches in the area. In 2026 Bishop Guli (Bishop of Chelmsford) undertook a Lent Pilgrimage (walking between all the local churches) to visit all churches on the aret trail and visited St Pails in the first week. More details can be found here.

Churches are often places where art is gifted or displayed to to give glory to God by pointing out aspects of Holy Presence or by highlighing key stories of the bible. It is an age old tradition that we gladly continue. In addition to the beauty of the building, we have a number of artworks and artforms that are displayed around the building.

Stations of the Crown of Thorns

Station 1The Stations of the Crown of Thorns was created as a bespoke art piece for St Paul's by local artist Henry Sheldon. Covering all 14 stations the image of Christ is depicted as a crown of thorns on canvas alongside an image related to the station. The only station that is different is Station 12 where the Rood (Crucifix) has been gilded behind the wooden figure of Christ. Each of the images can be seen in our gallery.

Windows

We have a number of stained glass windows around the building that show various bible passages and depictions of biblical figures and saints. Stained glass, like all artwork, comes in many styles and we have a number of styles represented in our walls.

More details on our windows can be found in our downloads section.

Statues and Plaques

Statues are created as pointers to God or people, not as subsitutes or gods in their own right.

We are blessed with statues depicting St Paul (in wood), Mary and Child (in stone), Madonna and child (In ceramics), and most powerfully the Body of Christ on the cross as part of the stations.

Wood and Metalwork

Throughout the church building we have varous pieces of wood and metalwork which is used to enhance our worship. There are many objects around that hold significance in church tradition, practicality, and worship and we would love to share these with you.
