Thus says our God, I will comfort you,
you shall see and your heart shall rejoice.
‘Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her*
all you who love her’, say the Lord.
Rejoice with her in joy,*
all you who morn over her.
‘That you may drink deeply with delight
from her consoling breast’.
‘As a mother comforts her children,*
so I will comfort you;
Thus says our God, I will comfort you,
you shall see and your heart shall rejoice [Isaiah 66.10-11a, 13]
Do they weep for you?
or do they just weep;
for their own misery?
the misery of the world?
or maybe all three!
Misery - is the mother who cannot protect her children.
Misery - is your home destroyed by war or earthquake
Misery - is being forced into drugs or prostitution.
Misery – is being made to deny who and what you are.
This eighth station is heavy with sorrow,
the heaviness of your cross,
bears the full weight of the worlds pain.
‘I will comfort you;
you shall see and your heart shall rejoice.’
Even in the midst of our suffering
Christ comes to us, to be with us.
